Range Trip – 5-28-2026 Remington 700

Range Trip – 5-28-2026

I’m so much more than pleased with my Remington 700 5R Milspec rifle in .308.  It is the best shooting rifle I’ve ever owned.  However, I have been looking for a scope that would give me a bit more flexibility at distance.  Last month I chose one that I believe will do well.  It is a Viper® PST Gen II 3-15x44 FFP with a EBR-7C (MOA) Reticle and a 30mm Tube.  Turns out I did not have the right rings on hand so there was a slight delay while I ordered the correct ones.  I got them the end of last week and got the scope mounted.  I set aside today to go to the range and zero the entire system.  Honestly, it really went smoothly.  I started out at 10 yards and did a bore sight.  Then pushed back to 25 and finally 50 yards.  Once I was happy, I moved to 100 Yards for a final zero.  You’ll see the target sheet below. I did a few final tweaks before I shot targets #4 and #5.  As you can see, I shot 100% with #4 coming in at .93MOA and #5 coming in at 1.04MOA.  Average group size for the Final Zero Target was 0.97MOA.

I then moved to the #1 Sheet.  Again, I shot 100% with average group size coming in a 0.94MOA.  My best group was 0.44 MOA on Target #4.

My minimums were easily met – 2MOA average with 90% hit rate – and exceeded.

Just for the heck of it . . . and because I had 15 rounds left over from the box . . . I posted my typical 50-yard target and decided to send a single round at each 2-inch target.  The fact that the center is a light grey made it more difficult to pick up but I only dropped 3 rounds out of 12 at 100-yards coming in with an 83%.  Below my 90% but I’ll take it.  Next time I’ll use the solid black centers – I think that will make a difference.  We’ll see.

My real reason for the scope upgrade is to push out to longer range.  There is a local range – Sure Shot – and John has targets out to 800 I believe available on a daily basis.  With the First Focal Place advantage and the EBR-7C reticle with a larger aperture I’m looking forward to stretching my legs a bit.  But, that’s for another range trip.  For this one, all goals were met and exceeded.  A fine time was had.
