Range Trip - 12/6/2012

 

No time for a real range trip today so I’m using the LaserLyte range I have set up at the end of my office.  The effective range is 21 feet, effective target size – a standard IDPA target.  Today I am using the LaserLyte target as “center mass”, using the timer on my Android with a 2-second par time.

This was a “stand and deliver” drill, no movement.  All draws were from concealment, single round engagements.

Goals:

All draws and first round hits sub-2 seconds

80% hit rate

While not as much fun as “makin’ holes” or “throwin’ lead” or “burnin’ powder” – what was accomplished is 25 draws from concealment.  Each first-round hit was under 2-seconds, I had one hit “off the paper”, the rest were center mass on a “21in target”.  I was able to work on my single-hand draw, my reholstering (remember – you have ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD TO REHOLSTER!!!) and still have a very enjoyable time!

Cost comparison – Lifetime supply of Laserlyte ammo – one-time fee of ~$90 (plus batteries every now-and-then).  Cost of 25 rounds of 9MM, ~$7 + time + gas.  Not a bad trade off.

It’s my goal to do this session 3x a week, I’ll let you know how it goes!
